Historical & Cultural Origins of 扫尘 Sǎo Chén
◆ Zhou Dynasty:
Originated from elite Fú Chú(祓除) ritual, linking cleanliness to social order, purifying palaces to ensure the favor of heaven.
◆ Han Dynasty:
Popularized among common people, blended with Kitchen God belief; cleaning as spiritual exorcism, same logic as Great Nuo (大傩) Ritual.
◆ Linguistic & Philosophical Meaning:
尘 (dust) homophonic to 陈 (old), Sǎo Chén means "sweeping away the old"—a physical reset for family fortune to welcome new luck.
