60 years ago, development brought with it a human tragedy.

In 1952, the Aluminium Company of Canada built a dam to power a nearby plant.

The land was flooded and the native Cheslatta Carrier Nation were forced to leave their homes.

The flood destroyed graves.

Some of the elders can remember seeing remains of their ancestors floating away.

We had an elders luncheon here today.

And if you sit around and listen to them, like really listen to them, you can hear the stories about what it was like, what it was really like.

And, we don't have very many of them left.

We have two, maybe three in our community right now that are pre-flood and post-flood.

And at that time, our people were forced to move out of their territory with two weeks notice.
